The Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA) observed the International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and "condemns the practice as a grave violation of human rights and gender oppression." Lentil as Anything began in 2000 at St Kilda. Its founder Shanaka Fernando was living in a tent. At the time, money was influencing the trends in the community, leaving many disenchanted.
