The Rhythm Hut’s 4th Birthday!

August 15, 2017 by

It’s another historical moment in The Rhythm Hut history, as we celebrate a milestone 4 years in our space in Faunce Street, Gosford.

From humble beginnings (no walls and roof in some parts!), to holding a huge range of music and yoga classes, and artistic workshops with hundreds of students each week; to supporting local music and arts with open mics, and Art Party; branching out to book launches, documentary screenings, and dance classes; raising tens of thousands of dollars for various charities; and of course holding some huge live music events with National and International artists such as Nattali Rize (Blue King Brown), Tijuana Cartel, OKA, Wes Carr, Wild Marmalade, Katchafire, Melbourne Ska Orchestra and loads more!

Now it's time for our biggest event of the year, and we want you to help us celebrate!

To celebrate The Rhythm Hut's 4th Birthday, we welcome our headline act to The Hut for the first time – Ash Grunwald! Supporting Ash will be local legends, Rhythm Hunters, and we also welcome back Tullara to The Hut stage. Add into the mix a DJ and Rhythm Hut drum circle, and we have a huge night planned!

Ash Grunwald
Ash Grunwald, loved for his crowd frenzied shows and blistering guitar playing, has critics and fans raving about his unique blend of roots, beats and a whole lotta groove for over a decade. Nominated for a swag of awards and winning a few, Ash proves why he is one of Australia's most loved bluesmen.

Throughout his illustrious career Ash has been nominated for a whopping 5 ARIA Awards, 2 APRA Awards for Best Blues & Roots, has performed at Bluesfest, Falls Festivals, Woodfood Folk Festival, Big Pineapple & Originals Festival and has sold out national tours across Australia for the last 6+ years.

Now Ash returns with a vengeance in 2017, opening a new chapter in his fifteen-year career with the release of blues/rock stomper 'Hammer'.

Taking cues from classic bluesmen including R. L Burnside and John Lee Hooker and old prison work songs, Grunwald drags the genre into the 21st century, adding a twist of classic rock, neo soul and a hat-tip to roots contemporaries including Butler, Rudd and Harper. 'Hammer' is Grunwald's most accomplished track to date, showing an artist emerging with a confidence and resolve of a leader rather than a follower.

Rhythm Hunters
A dynamite force in world roots music, adored for their frenetic drum choreographies and infectious dance grooves, Rhythm Hunters bring cutting edge physical percussion, western horns, Asian flute, deep grooves and electro beats, making them one of Australia's most exciting festival acts.

Drawing from the cultures of northern Australasia, to the traditional folk songs of Indonesia, and the electro beats of cyber culture, Rhythm Hunters is a unique musical and visual act that easily slides into many genres including world, folk, groove, electronic and cultural genres.

Original inspiration stems from the dream of celebrated multi-instrumentalist Rendra Freestone to create a visual fusion of Japanese Taiko drumming with indigenous music from the little known provinces of West Sumatra and Aceh, Indonesia. Over years of development a range of contemporary instruments have found their way into the group resulting in a very modern sound.

In 2017 Rhythm Hunters look forward to releasing their highly anticipated new studio album produced by Nicky Bomba, and touring extensively around Australia and Indonesia throughout the year.

23 year old Australian singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Tullara has quickly developed a reputation as one of the country's brightest up and coming performers. Renowned for her guitar playing, described as "beautifully complex and intricate while within an instant raw and powerful", Tullara has an endearing stage presence full of honesty and swagger.

Though still young, Tullara has encountered great success and great tragedy, and these experiences have transformed into the songs that make up her debut EP. Released November 2016, 'Better Hold On', explores honest and universal emotions through the intricacy of her guitar and the power of her voice. The lead single and music video 'Too Many' earned her Triple J Unearthed Spotlight Artist of the week, won the attention and praise of John Butler, landed her a supporting spot on internationally acclaimed artist Wallis Bird's Australian tour, and sees her featured in many of Australia's leading festivals. 'Better Hold On' was recorded in Melbourne by premier female producer and international touring artist Aurora Jane. It is an exciting taste of what's to come from this young artist.

"Tullara has a way with words and a way with that guitar. She's a gifted artist just at the beginning of what looks to be a promising adventure ahead." – ARIA Award winning artist John Butler
